By selectively dimming the individual LEDs, it achieves HDR quality that comes close to its FALD cousins. Rather than the full-array local-dimming (FALD) units used by Asus and Acer, LG employs an edge-lit backlight but offers a local dimming feature of its own. The principal reason for this is its backlight.
